Recovery of industrial waste heat in Reims

Focus on one of production chain at the glasswork of Reims, factory where Dalkia recovers industrial fatal heat to supply the network

The challenge

The city of Reims wanted to reduce the carbon impact of the Saint-Remi district. For its part, O-I Glass, which had a large amount of waste heat from its industrial process, had committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030.

The solution

Our experts and the O-I Glass teams worked together to create a system for recovering the plant's waste heat. In practical terms, a heat recovery system was installed to capture the waste energy emitted by the furnaces. This energy is then reused to supply the district heating network. Useful and efficient, this solution for recovering industrial waste heat produces around 15 GWh of energy per year. No more waste, a circular economy and a greener city!

The benefits

  • Recovery of waste heat as a local energy source.
  • Tangible energy savings in the glass industry in Reims.
  • A district heating network supplied with 65% renewable and recovered energy (RE&R).

With new high-tech equipment, a new overall configuration and additional technical innovations, the plant has significantly increased its flexibility, production capacity and energy efficiency. It is in this dynamic to go further in addressing environmental challenges that we took part in the sustainable heating project with Dalkia.
